Our Story

Hotel Post Gries; Four Generations of Family History

Family-Run by the Bergers Since 1937

For us, running this hotel isn’t just a job. It’s in our bones, and it’s simply who we are.

The Beginning of a Family Legacy

Our Great-Grandparents Took Over What Was Once a Coaching Inn

Back in 1937, our great-grandparents, Alois Berger and Anna Egger, took a leap of faith and made this old coaching inn their own. It had long been a staging post for travellers and horse-drawn coaches crossing South Tyrol. Little by little, they turned that simple guesthouse into the Hotel Post Gries you’ll find today.

Walter and His Lambretta

Their Son Walter Took the Reins

Walter would hop on his Lambretta and pick up guests directly from the railway station. Together with his wife Helga, he gave the house its heart and soul.

The Third Generation Steps In

Walter’s Sons, Klaus and Luis, Join the Family Business

Walter’s son, Klaus, joined the business in 1991, followed by his brother, Luis, in 2005. Since 2015, Klaus’s wife, Eva, has also been an integral part of the team — ensuring everything runs smoothly and that the house feels like a home.

The Fourth Generation

Oliver and Philipp Are Following in Their Fathers’ Footsteps

Since 2021, Oliver — Luis’s son — has been part of the family team, and in 2025, Philipp, son of Klaus and Eva, joined as well. And who knows — maybe you’ll become part of our story, too.

Our Values

What’s Kept Us Going All These Years

Staying True to Our Roots

We run our house the way we live — down-to-earth and uncomplicated. You’ll be welcomed just like we’d want to be welcomed ourselves.

Deeply Rooted in the Region

Whenever we can, we keep things local — whether it’s the Speck and milk on your breakfast table or the menus from the print shop around the corner.

Time for a “Ratscher” — A Good Chat

Busy as things get, we always make time for connection. Whether that’s a tip for your next hike or a quick chat at the bar — it’s the spirit Walter brought on his Lambretta, and it’s still how we do things today.

Making Our Guests Feel at Home

You’ll find Klaus, Luis, Eva, Oliver, Philipp and the whole team here every day, making sure you’re well looked after. Everyone pitches in, and together we turn your stay into a proper home away from home.

Artworks by Martin Pohl

Since 2015, our rooms have been adorned with paintings by South Tyrolean artist Martin Pohl, whose work has been exhibited in galleries across Austria. The paintings capture his personal view of the South Tyrolean mountains – and we think they fit perfectly with the spirit of our hotel.
